    About 60 Southport StreetThe Southport

Much like a fine wine, some buildings get better with age — and while the bottle might get a bit dusty, the wine inside is sure to please. The Southport is very much like an old bottle of wine; the exterior of this building certainly shows its age, but if you can look past the dated brick and concrete design, you’ll find something special inside.

The Southport was built in 1972 and it looks like an old apartment building. But if you’re at all familiar with condo design, then you know older buildings have generous floor plans, and prices tend to be more affordable. This building provides some nice extras as well; pool, sauna, tennis courts, party room, security guard, and parking garage.

With its location at 60 Southport St in High Park & Swansea neighbourhood, these condos are a great fit for couples, families, and empty nesters. The one drawback of this neighbourhood is that nightlife options are in short supply, but for those who don’t mind, these High Park condos for sale have a ton of value and there’s plenty of great restaurants, cafes, and green spaces in the area.

    The Suites

60 Southport St contains 232 Toronto condos. As is the case with many older buildings, suite sizes are quite generous — ranging from 988 square feet to 1526. However, with older buildings can come older finishes, and it’s possible that some units could be in need of an upgrade. In fact, it’s possible that some suites could have — dun, dun, dun — carpets… just breathe, everything will be alright. But should you desire to take on a fixer upper, you’re sure to get a great return on investment down the line.

While some units could be dated, most have seen some form of personalization over the years. Interested buyers can expect to find open concept layouts with 2 storeys of living space, modern kitchens with stainless steel appliances, hardwood floors, updated bathrooms, ensuite laundry, large bedrooms, and private balconies.

The best part of living at this residence is that you get to call High Park home; there are few areas in the city which can offer such a family friendly environment, and fewer still that have such a sizeable park in the neighbourhood. If you have children or favour recreation of partying, then you’re going to love it here.

    The Neighbourhood

The crown jewel of High Park & Swansea is High Park itself — covering over 400 acres of land and offering a woodland reprieve from city life, this charming park is arguably the best in the city. For families, there’s High Park Zoo, Jamie Bell Adventure Playground which was built by Mike Holmes, High Park Children’s Garden, and Shakespeare in High Park for outdoor theatre.

Beyond that, there are countless recreational activities like swimming at the outdoor pool, or a variety of sports complexes like baseball diamonds and tennis courts. As well, there are scenic trails for a walk or run, open fields of green grass to burn of excess energy, a dog park, additional playgrounds, a café, and more.

On nights where you simply don’t want to cook, you can head north to Bloor for some great restaurants; there’s Goodfellas Wood Oven Pizza, The Good Fork, The One That Got Away, Amber European Restaurant, Yumi Japanese Restaurant, and more. You’ll also find spots for food on the run like Fat Bastard Burrito, Pizza Pizza, Tim Hortons, and McDonald's.

For those who are looking for what nightlife can be found here, you have a few hangouts to choose from on Bloor — Bryden's and A Dark Horse for craft beers and pub food, The Swan: A Firkin Pub for drinks in a 2 storey alehouse, and Mackenzies High Park where you can enjoy a drink while watching the game on a large projection screen.

    Transportation

Now comes the Walk Score, which is certainly going to be a difficult pill to swallow — 60 Southport St clumsily staggers its way to a 46 Walk Score. As a resident of this building, you’ll need a vehicle or public transit to accomplish your errands… or marathon levels of endurance. For groceries, there’s Sobeys Queensway less than a 5 minute drive from the building.

Public transit users have bus stops right outside their front door on Southport St, and route 77 can take you to Runnymede Station for subway lines. Also, there are east and westbound streetcars on Queensway for shorter trips.

Car owners are by far the best off of all residents at 60 Southport St; by heading south on S Kingsway, you can be on the Gardiner Expressway in minutes — lucky you!
